Mark Schnaible
Voice and Opera / Performance
Since 1988, bass-baritone Mark Schnaible has taught and mentored countless aspiring young singers as well as established professionals. Students from his voice studio continue to excel and have been chosen for numerous young artist programs, including the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program, Central City Opera House, Wolf Trap, San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. They have distinguished themselves as winners of numerous competitions, including the National Federation of Music Clubs, National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition, the Joy in Singing Competition, the New York Oratorio Society’s Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition, and numerous European competitions.
His professional students have sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, English National Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Liceu Opera Barcelona, the Israeli Opera, as well as numerous regional houses in the United States and Europe. Additionally, they are Grammy winners and have recorded for Deutsche Grammaphon, Sony, Arabesque, and others.
He maintains a private studio in New York City and currently serves on the voice faculties of the Manhattan School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, Montclair State University, and the City University of New York,
Mr. Schnaible has sung with the Israeli Opera, Bergen National Opera, Polish National Opera, Leipzig Opera, Chorégies d’Orange Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, as well as numerous regional opera houses in Europe, the United States, and the Middle East. The list of esteemed conductors with whom he has worked includes Michel Plasson, Seiji Ozawa, Christoph Eschenbach, Bertrand de Billy, Kent Nagano, Ralf Weikert, Franz Welser-Möst, Edo de Waart, Corrado Rovaris, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Marc Soustrot and Anton Coppola. He joined the Curtis voice faculty in 2021.
