Piano Trios of Weinberg, Auerbach, & Dvorák

Piano trios by Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Lera Auerbach, and Antonín Dvořák is cast in the spirit of the Dumka, containing works composed under the shadows of troubled and traumatic political histories—this program is a heartfelt response to the enduring human struggle unfolding around the world.

As a final artistic statement of their time here at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Viano Quartet, the Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet Program participants from 2021 to 2023, has released their debut recording, an exciting audiovisual project entitled PORTRAITS, through Curtis Studio, the recording label of the Curtis Institute of Music.
Revival, Music of Price & Bonds

Michelle Cann’s debut solo piano recording, Revival, celebrates the vast legacy of Florence Price and Margaret Bonds, whose extraordinary music was either neglected in their lifetimes or abandoned after their deaths. Through stunning performances of Price’s prize-winning Piano Sonata in E minor, three of her sumptuous Fantasie nègre, and Bonds’s magnum opus for piano, Spiritual Suite, Cann does more than just honor her forebears.
Scheherazade

In December 2021, conductor Osmo Vänskä and the Curtis Symphony Orchestra set out to record a stunning new rendition of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Recorded at the world-renowned Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, including on the iconic Field Concert Hall stage, Vänskä and the Orchestra did more than just recapture the enchanting nature of Rimsky-Korsakov’s orchestral gem, itself an aural reimagining of that ancient and oft-told myth.
Curtis Studio
Throughout its history, Curtis has regularly commissioned established and emerging voices to create new music and explore new ideas. Recent commissions include work from Bright Sheng, Jennifer Higdon, Richard Danielpour, Gabriella Smith (Composition ’13), and David Serkin Ludwig (Composition ’01).
