Sherry Overholt

Soprano Sherry Overholt has sung leading roles with the Virginia, Kentucky, Glimmerglass, Toledo, and Indianapolis opera companies, among others. For ten years she sang with Columbia Artist Management’s Community Concerts, performing over 300 concerts nationally and internationally. She has performed with the Baltimore and Portland symphony orchestras, among others. Her recent recordings include Frank Lewin’s Burning Bright and Vincent Persichetti’s Harmonium and Legacy of Songs.

Ms. Overholt holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University, where she was mentored by Phyllis Curtin; and also studied at the Tanglewood Music Center. She is the director of vocal and opera studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music and the artistic director and founder of the Queens Summer Vocal Institute. Her current and former students have sung at the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, the Merola Opera Program, Glyndebourne, and numerous regional opera houses.

Ms. Overholt holds teaching positions at Queens College and Purchase College; routinely adjudicates for the Fulbright Scholar Program, Classical Singer, and the National Opera Association; and presents master classes year-round. Ms. Overholt has been a member of the adjunct faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music since 2016.
